NYX Mineral Finishing Powder: Set It and Forget It, or Set It and Fret It?

I bought this little baby a couple of months ago. Since then it’s been revamped with new, though oddly similar packaging. Looking at the reviews, I’ve found the sentiment is the same so I decided to give my little two cents. Before we get into that, let’s go over a few quick facts about the brand:

  1. The brand is owned by mega conglomerate L’Oreal.
  2. They are cruelty free.
  3. They are named after a Greek goddess of the night.

Now let’s get down to business. A few months ago I had no idea what a finishing powder was and NYX was my first. I was confident in buying a cheaper powder to learn and grow with. The powder is $10.00 with only two shades (Light/Medium and Medium/Dark).

I picked the shade Medium/Dark as it seemed to be the closest to my skin tone.

I did my makeup like normal and put the powder under my eyes. Normally I would put it all over but since I’m testing it out I Wanted it in a controlled spot just in case.

I used a stippling brush to remove it and everything seemed just peachy. My makeup was matte and the powder seemed to set well.

Confident this was going to be a raving review, I hit the lights and took pictures with the flash. The flashback is awful.

Unfortunately there’s this terrible white cast. It would be fine if I were a diva and could shout “No flash photography” to the slew of paparazzi chasing me down as I’m leaving whole foods. Sadly, that isn’t my life.

*I’m totally OK being my own paparazzi as I’m sure most people are.

This product was a definite miss for me. I happen to love flash photography. I’m betting it may work just fine for those of you with fairer skin. I don’t suspect it will make you look like a ghost.

I’m still on the hunt for a good finishing powder. One where I can set it and forget it.

Until Next We Meet,

Arrianne
